Tutoring Programs and Services
CES’ individualized one-to-one and small group tutoring programs are proven effective in developing the student, both academically and behaviorally. CES provides individualized tutoring in which students receive math and reading remediation, academic enrichment, homework assistance, as well as instruction on test taking skills and strategies.
PROJECT ACHIEVE
Project Achieve is designed for children in DC Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA) Foster Care system, who require academic tutorial assistance in the areas of math, reading and language arts. Students in Project Achieve are referred by CFSA Social Workers. Currently, there are over 75 students within the program that receive assistance from certified educational professions, teachers and administrators.
PROJECT SUCCESS
PROJECT SUCCESS is designed to assist parents and guardians with children who experience academic and behavioral challenges within the public school system.
PROJECT SUCCESS is a supplemental educational services (SES) tutorial program funded by No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 throughout the United States for public schools identified in need of improvement.
PROJECT SUCCESS provides assistance to public schools who have failed to reach adequate yearly progress with student achievement for two consecutive years. By providing tutorial services for students within various school systems, CES collaborates with school administration, staff, and guardians to bring the school to an improved status.
CES’ PROJECT SUCCESS in 2007-2008 serviced over 1,000 students throughout the Washington DC Metro Area and in six counties in North Carolina. For 2008-2009, CES is presently an approved SES provider in the following states: New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
CAMP SUCCESS
CAMP SUCCESS is an academic and art enrichment summer camp program held at DC Public Elementary School. CAMP SUCCESS is funded by the DC Youth Investment Trust Corporation and local community advocates and businesses that operates throughout the summer, from June – August. CAMP SUCCESS utilizes a research based curriculum to provide daily math, reading, and science enrichment. Simultaneously, CAMP SUCCESS provides students with art appreciation through dance, drama, music, and visual arts.
Each year the program has grown to accommodate over 100 students (2008). Camp success promotes student achievement by keeping students aligned with academic expectations. Registration begins for students for CAMP SUCCESS in early April 2009. CAMP SUCCESS is free to students K-6.
The Lab
“The Lab” is an after school program, in which CES tutors provide academic reinforcement and school homework assistance to students, sponsored in part by Project My Time, an initiative created by the Children and Youth Investment Trust Corporation.
Project My Time is the result of broad partnerships between DC government, schools, business leaders, private funders, parents and the community to address the needs of DC children. Recent Statistics indicate that middle school students are the least exposed to, and most in need of parental involvement. Without intervention, it has become evident that this demographic is losing ground fast in the successful transition into adulthood. These negative effects manifest immediately through lowered school performance and attendance, violent and dangerous behavior, and a disconnected sense of self.
Capitol Educational Support, Inc provides academic enrichment in both mathematics and language arts using a wide range of assessments in order to isolate student’s strengths and weaknesses and create individualized programs to address their educational concerns. During the 2007-2008 school year, CES was able to service 109 7th and 8th graders at Jefferson Middle School in “The Lab”. In 2008-2009, “The Lab” will be operating within four Project My Time sites. In total, these middle school sites (Jefferson, Kelly Miller, Sousa, and Thurgood Marshall) will service no less than 250 youth.

MENTORING
CES’ programs and services are built specifically to help children receive the best of their mentoring experience. Through each program, our children receive dedicated certified professionals, because our goal is to “empower a community… one child at a time.”
BE A ROLE MODEL PROJECT
The Be a Role Model Project is designed to assist children whose parents are incarcerated. Statistics show that 7 out of 10 children with an incarcerated parent will end up in prison without positive intervention. CES is dedicated to recruiting volunteer role models who are committed to mentoring a child and creating a meaningful and positive bond.
Currently, CES has 150 mentors and 121 children within the program. Our mentors are required to spend at least one (1) hour per week. The children are referred by legal guardians and various social service and government agencies. Our goal in 2008 is to provide the children with one-on-one services, enrolling 350 children and recruiting 250 mentors.
